Holladay Properties’ added a landscaping function in 1991. For our 60th Anniversary, the head of the Landscaping Department, looked back at what had changed between then (1991) and now (2012) and came up with some interesting comparisons.
- 1991 – Plowed 4 properties: 1 snow blower, 1 shovel, 1 straight plow, 1 pallet of salt
- 2012 – Plowed 14 properties: 4 snow blowers, 8 shovels, 3 V-Blade plows and 3 dump spreaders, Bobcat with broom, 2 sidewalk brooms, Semi load bagged salt, 160+ tons bulk salt
- 1991 – Mowed 9 properties
- 2012 – Mowed 25 properties
- 1991 – 4 pallets of fertilizer
- 2012 – 24 pallets of fertilizer
- 1991 – 5 gallons of “Round-Up” herbicide
- 2012 – 40 gallons of “Round-Up” herbicide
- From 1991-2000, Landscape shop moved around approx. 7 times to different vacant spaces. Sometimes back to same space twice!
- New shop was built in 2005
- 1991 – Planted approx. 1500 tulips
- 2012 – Planted approx. 23,000 tulips
- 1991 – Changed 2 mower blades per day
- 2012 – Changed 26 mower blades per day
- 2006 – Grounds crew was hired to plant annuals in all downtown flower pots, beds and Morris Civic Auditorium
- 1991 – Recorded time on white-board and sheets of paper
- 2012 – Recorded time using ADP EZ labor on PC
- 1991 – Pagers were the contact source; calls were made from building elevators or pay phones
- 2012 – Smart phones are the norm
