Recognizing our people in the community: Missy Hoekstra
Missy Hoekstra is a Leasing Agent at Burlington Station, Holladay’s 89-unit multifamily residential community in Downers Grove, IL. She is an active volunteer with Hesed House, the second largest homeless shelter in Illinois. She discovered the organization when she was teaching previously, from some of her students and their families who utilized the group’s services.
Hessed House is dedicated to ending homelessness and was founded in 1983 in Aurora, IL. The group offers a variety of programs including emergency shelter, homeless prevention, permanent housing support, employment education, substance abuse and mental health counseling, and legal and educational assistance.
Hessed House has over 7,000 volunteers who assist individuals and families experiencing homelessness. The organization takes in roughly 16 newly homeless individuals each week and tries to get as many individuals out of homelessness each week. Hessed House works with a professional staff and the help of outside agencies to help over 1,000 people through its shelters and housing programs annually.
