(Nashville, TN) – On April 25, Holladay Properties had ten employees volunteer with Habitat for Humanity on the final build day at a home in Nashville, TN. Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit organization that helps families build and improve places to call home. Habitat is a global nonprofit housing organization working in local communities across all 50 states in the U.S. and in approximately 70 countries. Habitat’s vision is of a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Habitat works toward its vision by building strength, stability and self-reliance in partnership with families in need of decent and affordable housing. Homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage.

At the build site, Holladay employees put the finishing touches on the house with the homeowner. The team completed such tasks as painting, caulking windows, installing shelving, assembling a lawn mower, and cleaning the job site.

“The experience was very exciting to see the family’s reaction to the help and how appreciative they are. They are also very involved, which is refreshing to see,” expressed Fred Scott, Director of Engineering. “All of the volunteers were very helpful and everyone worked together, which made it even more delightful. Employees from different departments getting together to do a good deed for a neighbor and learn about them as we were helping them to experience the American Dream of homeownership.”

Fred added, “The people in charge were very organized and diligent in keeping the project moving and utilizing the skills of the volunteers who gave their time and effort. This is a great program, and I would look forward to doing it again. My thanks to Holladay for making it possible and organizing it. Volunteering helps to keep me motivated and fulfilled.”

The event was organized by Janine Dao, Community Integration and Systems Support Lead, and Sarah Rexrode, AR Lead, with the assistance of Benton Smothers, Vice President-Development, who serves as an Advisory Board Member for Habitat for Humanity.
