A Holladay Blog Series
Operating as The Holladay Corporation, Holladay Properties’ developed its first Midwest residential community in 1967, with the creation of West Jefferson Apartments in Mishawaka. In 1986, we began developing Maple Lane Apartments in Elkhart. Over the years, these two communities have thrived, maintaining steady, high occupancy rates. Inspired by their success, we recently started development on our newest additions: The Promenade at Founders Square in Portage, IN and Burlington Station Luxury Residences in Downers Grove, IL. Opening for occupancy within just a few months of one another, it soon became clear that our newly-doubled portfolio required a special candidate to oversee the operations of our residential communities. Thankfully, we just so happened to already have someone who fit that profile on our staff: Shasta Kreighbaum.
Recently, we sat down with Shasta to learn a bit about how she came to Holladay, her new responsibilities and what she plans to bring to company as our Residential Specialist.
Q: Please describe your role:
Shasta: As the Residential Specialist my primary duty is to help our residential property managers oversee our residential communities in Indiana and Illinois. In addition to working with the Vice President of Property Management to develop company policies and procedures, I am also responsible for recruiting and training talented property managers and leasing agents, reviewing the financial performances of each property, and assisting the property managers with coordinating capital improvements and maintaining their communities to the highest of standards.
Q: How long have you worked for Holladay Properties and what was your previous position?
Shasta: I started at Holladay in 2008 as a part-time leasing consultant for Maple Lane Apartments in Elkhart. Prior to that, I was a stay-at-home Mom and a waitress. I was not familiar with the company when I was hired. Then, I heard of an opportunity for a part-time position that would allow me the flexibility to still be able to be there for my children when they were growing up. As a leasing consultant, my job was to promote the community and the rental of apartments, and assist residents with their needs.
Q: How did you move into the role of Residential Specialist?
Shasta: About a year ago, I emailed Jackie [Vice President of Property Management] stating that I was ready for a new challenge. When the Promenade at Founders Square was in need of help, I jumped at the chance to assist with whatever was needed. Soon, I was asked to help with Burlington Station and the development of our residential manual, and the rest was history!
Q: What do you love most about your work?
Shasta: Customer service has always been a part of my life. My ability to develop a rapport with all walks of life, allows me to better serve others, which is something I enjoy.
Q: When you are not at work, what can you be found doing?
Shasta: I love spending time with my friends, family, 2 dogs (Bruno & Karlee) and cat (Bella). I also really enjoy cooking and eating.
Q: Is there anything else that you would like to add?
Shasta: I am so glad that I took the leap, and applied to be a leasing agent 10 years ago. I’ve loved learning with the company, and look forward to growing for many years to come. I’m very proud to be a member of team Holladay Properties!
Shasta is now based out of the South Bend corporate office, but travels weekly to Portage, IN and Downers Grove, IL to perform her duties as our Residential Specialist. Her coworkers have been thoroughly impressed by the knowledge she has brought to the table, and her positivity and willingness to help has been infectious.
