Work has begun on a new safety and beautification project for IN-933 in South Bend, IN that the 933 Corridor Improvement Association has been planning for over a year.
The southbound right lane of Indiana 933 has been closed as work on a new trail between Angela Boulevard and the Indiana Toll Road has begun. The one mile stretch of trail will connect the East Bank Trail at Angela Boulevard to the LaSalle Trail at Douglas Road.
The 933 Corridor Improvement Association includes Holladay Properties, University of Notre Dame, Saint Mary’s College, Holy Cross College, and religious congregations of the Holy Cross priests, sisters and brothers. The trail was made possible by the Next Level Trails Grant, which was awarded to the Association in May 2019.
Paul Phair, VP-Development for Holladay Properties has been involved in this project since its inception and said the trail could take about three months to complete, with landscaping that could be finished this winter.
The completion of the trail could allow Holladay to make progress on a proposed $65 million to $75 million mixed-use development on Notre Dame-owned property that includes housing and retail development at the northeast corner of Indiana 933 and Douglas Road.
