(Manassas, VA) Holladay Properties joined officials from the City of Manassas and the Virginia Tourism Corporation on Monday, July 8 for a groundbreaking ceremony for the Tru by Hilton Hotel Manassas

“The Tru Hotel is a welcome addition to our Commonwealth’s ever-growing tourism economy,” Governor Northam said. “Tourism development is critical to positioning Virginia as a premier travel destination and projects like this will help Manassas continue to attract visitors and businesses, bringing new jobs and generating significant economic impact for the region.”

The Tru by Hilton Manassas has been given support through the Virginia Tourism Corporation’s Tourism Development Financing Program, which is a gap financing program designed to encourage investment and attract tourism products that will increase visitor spending. The new Tru is expected to create 35 jobs and general $2.8 million from traveler spending annually.

“Tourism is an instant revenue generator””last year, travelers to Manassas spent $71 million, which provided 600 work opportunities and resulted in $5.3 million in state and local taxes,” Brian Ball, Secretary of Commerce and Trade said. “With the addition of the Tru Hotel, more and more visitors will now be able to come to Manassas, staying longer, and spending more money, which will help grow and support our economy and communities.”

The groundbreaking event was well attended to celebrate the new project, which marks Holladay’s second Tru by Hilton branded hotel and will offer 98 guest rooms when completed. The Tru by Hilton hotel model is aimed at millennial travelers and offers smaller, more affordable rooms with larger, amenity-filled common area spaces.

“Several of the neighboring businesses attended the ground breaking. We can’t complete the hotel fast enough to service the needs,” Manette Tepe, Partner & Sr. VP-Development for Holladay Properties, said. “We are looking at means to expedite construction so the Manassas Tru opens by June 2020.”

The Tru will sit at the corner of Gateway Drive and Phair Way, which has been named for Holladay Properties’ President and CEO, John Phair, within the 40-acre Landing at Cannon Branch mixed-use development. During the groundbreaking event, Mr. Phair was presented with a street sign for Phair Way, a Commonwealth of Virginia flag, and a City of Manassas flag.

“The groundbreaking event highlighted the state and community support for the project,” Tepe said. “Presentation of the naming of the road as Phair Way will forever be a highlight in my working career at Holladay!”
