Holladay Properties’ Nashville office has begun demo work on an iconic 100 year old factory in Nashville, TN for Griffin Technologies, a 40,000 square foot office tenant.

The “Sawtooth Building,” so named because of its unique saw tooth architecture, was originally constructed in the early 1900’s for General Wax Industries.  General Wax vacated the building in the 1950’s, and it has had a variety of uses since then.

The saw tooth architecture of the building was used frequently in the early 20th century because the “tooth” design made expansion of the facility easy, as one section could be constructed at a time.  These buildings were typically built for manufacturing and expansion was frequent, thus the design allowed for the occupant to orient the glass sides to take advantage of natural day lighting to the manufacturing areas.

This is an example of a building’s life coming full circle.  The building was originally designed to provide an environment sensitive to the employees needs for lighting and comfort.  These features have long been hidden in this building, and Holladay is re-introducing these ideals to an entirely new generation in Griffin Technologies.
