Holladay Properties’ 385-acre mixed-use business park in Portage, IN has a new amenity – a section of the Marquette Greenway Trail system. When completed, the Marquette Greenway Trail will connect Chicago, IL to New Buffalo, MI and run for 60-miles along the Lake Michigan shore.

A portion of the trail at AmeriPlex at the Port runs from AmeriPlex Drive and IN-249 to Deer Trail Park, a five-acre park featuring 1,400 feet of wood chip-lined trails that run to the Little Calumet River. In 2004, Holladay Properties donated 16 acres of land at AmeriPlex to the Portage Parks Foundation and the area where Deer Trail Park is located was part of that donation.

A second portion of the Marquette Greenway Trail begins at the intersection of AmeriPlex Drive and Daniel Burnham drive and continues along Daniel Burnham Drive to Jensen Drive, where the trail continues along Jensen Drive to US-20. The trail through AmeriPlex is a 10-foot wide asphalt trail and features pedestrian crossing warning signals.

The Marquette Greenway Trail extension at AmeriPlex at the Port was made possible through a grant from the Next Level Trails program. When additional work is complete, the trail within AmeriPlex at the Port will run through the Indiana Dunes National Park and connect to an existing trail in Burns Harbor, IN to the east, and run to the Portage Lakefront Park to the west.

AmeriPlex at the Port is a Certified Wildlife Friendly Habitat and a Monarch Waystation. The new trail through AmeriPlex offers local residents, business park tenants, and other visitors an opportunity to enjoy nature and supports Holladay’s core values of Nurture, Community, and Health.

For those wishing to enjoy the trail, parking is available at Deer Trail Park on AmeriPlex Drive. To learn more about the Marquette Greenway Trail system in Indiana, visit NIRPC.org.
