On February 6, five employees from Holladay’s Nashville corporate office participated in Junior Achievement’s JA Our Families, a one-day program held in the classrooms of first-graders. JA Our Families is an interdisciplinary program that supports the attainment of academic standards in entrepreneurship, with a secondary focus on social studies, business, economics, ethics, reading, writing, and mathematics.

The Holladay volunteers delivered the hands-on classroom activities as designed by JA through a kit-based program that included five 30-minute sessions. The team taught in pairs: Tiffany Coursey, SVP-Human Resources, with a volunteer from another company; Marcy Coffman, Executive Assistant/Office Manager, with Sarah Rexrode, AR Specialist; and Grace Ledbetter, Controller-Development, with Ben Dance, Architect.

Following participation in the JA Our Families program, some of the abilities students will have include describing similarities/differences in families, understanding that families must earn money to pay for wants/needs, and identifying goods/services provided by local businesses.

JA USA is committed to developing and implementing programs designed to help students acquire the knowledge and economic reasoning skills to make sound financial decisions. In the 2018/2019 cycle, JA of Middle Tennessee impacted 36,755 students in 1,687 classrooms, with 1,401 educators and 2,768 volunteers, for 328,645 contact hours.
